“The Real Wild Woman”

Photos by Karen Leigh McKinley

been a photographer and explorer since I could walk through the woods and pick up a camera. For 16 years I was a journalist, editor and photographer, working in newsrooms across Canada, covering everything from local politics, to emergencies, community events, business and sports.

But my passion has always been nature and how it makes us human. Every chance I had to get out into the wilderness, whether it was dense Boreal forest, or vast plains and desert. I had to be out in it to know how I, and ultimately all of us, are connected to it.

What I have learned over the decades. Nature isn’t a separate entity that we get to visit once and a while, it is all around us. From our backyards to the concrete and steel of our towns and cities. I seek to explore and capture what I see and experience to bring it to you, so you can see what I see.

Welcome to my ongoing adventure.
